Description
Connector P3 is a standard micro-USB3.0 type-AB connector.
Connector P3 is available with all SB-SOM board configurations/revisions.
The interface accessible through connector P3 is derived from system-on-module pins 174, 176, 178, 182, 184, 188 and 189.
In most cases system-on-module implements a USB (host/gadget) interface at these pins.
Most common usage of this connector is outlined in the sub-chapters below.

Please refer to SB-SOM carrier board schematics and system-on-module hardware reference manual for pin functions, connector pinout and other details on your specific system.

USB OTG/Dual-Role operation
If P3 enables access to system-on-module implemented OTG/Dual-Role USB port (this is the most common case) the following two modes of operation are possible (operation mode is in most cases selected by software):
- Gadget Mode: SB-SOM enables system-on-module operation in USB gadget mode (if supported by system-on-module) when connected to a standard USB2.0 / USB3.0 port on a host system (such as a standard PC) using a standard USB2.0/3.0 to micro-USB2.0/3.0 cable.
- Host Mode: SB-SOM enables system-on-module operation in USB host mode allowing connection of USB gadgets (such as a disk-on-key, USB Keyboard, etc..) to the P3 connector through an appropriate adapter.

USB battery charging
Connector P3 can be used for main battery (at connector P19) charging instead of charging from a DC power source at the main power supply connector.
This functionality relies on system-on-module hardware support for USB charger detection and SW support to enable/manage/monitor the charging process.
